The Dubai government has signed a new contract with a British blockchain startup (ObjectTech) to create digital passports to enter Dubai International Airport.
Under the agreement, ObjecTech is required to provide a solution based on combining blockchain technology with biometric authentication. The purpose of this solution is to eliminate the manual passport verification check. According to ObjectTech, we will see the world’s first borderless border. Once the solution is in place, passengers will receive their luggage after the flight and arrival at the airport and will not need to stand in line to confirm their passports. Passport-free entry is an idea that has been waiting for years to be implemented, but the emergence of a secure identification framework with the help of blockchain technology has created the conditions for this to be possible for the first time. The Digital Passport Initiative is just part of the overall idea behind Dubai to become the first blockchain city. The Dubai government plans to move all government documents to the blockchain by 2020.
