The Lao People’s Democratic Republic is a country in Southeast Asia. Its capital is Vientiane. Laos is a one-party socialist republic. Laos dates back to a monarchy that existed from the 14th to the 18th century but was later divided into three smaller kingdoms. In 1893 the territories came under French protection, and the three kingdoms of Luang Prabang, Vientiane, and Champasak united to form Laos. Laos became independent shortly after the Japanese occupation in 1945 but regained control of France, but was granted autonomy in 1949.

The legal status of digital currencies in this country is unknown.
